In the Midst of NaNoWriMo…

Posted by on Nov 9, 2009 in Writing | 0 comments

nano_09_red_participant_100x100_1I received my entries from a contest with judge’s notes and was both thrilled and disappointed. While I didn’t final in the contest, I did get a very high score and soaring praises from one judge. The other one, not so much.

I am always grateful for critique and take the chance to learn and grow from my mistakes. This came at a strange time, because I am not focusing on that story right now with National Novel Writing Month in full swing. But these comments got me thinking more and more about tweaking that novel just a little.

So much to do, so little time. I guess I’d better get back to the NaNoWriMo project. But I will stress again that I find contests a very rewarding experience and a chance for professional critique. So, even if you don’t get the blue ribbon, jump in and toss your manuscript in!

NaNoWriMo Word Count: Just more than 20,000!

NaNoWriMo so far…

writingSo far, National Novel Writing Month has been a dream come true. I am writing, not critically editing and spending time rearranging, fussing here and there. The goal is not perfect prose, but prose in quantity!

I feel fortunate that I had a story burning for the past few months and was able to use that for this month. While it is different from my typical suspense/intrigue historical novels, it is still gripping and a blast to write. The only road bumps I have come across is forcing myself to stop writing! Since I am limited to work lunch hours and my evenings, there is so little time for so much writing.

I suspect I will come across a bigger roadblock soon – my creative muse may run out, but I am hopeful. I am enjoying the vacation from editing my other novel. Of course, that just means December will be filled with editing, revising and rewriting! So be it. God has blessed me with the moments here and there to write and I am using them to the fullest!

Now – off I go to do another couple hundred words…Break time is almost over!

Oh, and my word count on 11/5/09 = 15,000 words! Well ahead of the game, but I’m leaving in a buffer in case I miss a day! ;-)

First 10,000 words done!

I have crossed the 10,000-word threshold!

Perhaps I’m just really inspired, but the first 1/5th of the book has flowed onto the computer screen. I love the characters, the conflict and the break from my other WIP.

Okay – no more distracting blogging. Back to work, then when I take my lunch break, more writing!

NaNoWriMo has begun!!

Here we go – day one of the National Novel Writing Month. The goal? 50,000 word novel in one month.

I have started another World War Two historical romance, with a different take than In Dawn’s Shadows. This story takes place in a small town in America during 1941, whereas my other WIP involves the European theatre before the U.S. ever entered the war.

You need to do about 1,700 a day to hit the 50,000 mark. Today I hit more than 3,000 – I plan to do as much as I can, knowing that there will be days I miss my daily word count. So, only 47,000 more words to go!

If you are also participating in NaNoWriMo, leave a comment on your project and what you’re looking forward to!

Happy writing!
