thankful thursday: of injured ponies and growing gardens

In my break from blogging, I grew slack in writing down the daily gifts around me—and it affected my overall attitude a lot. I’ve resumed journaling my daily gifts, and thus I’ll resume these thankful thursday posts. 🙂 (oh but I’m completely giving up on the numbering system—I can’t even recall where I left off!)   gift #1,103,234… and beyond… – my cousin’s injured horse making a solid recovery {only horse owners can truly appreciate how harrowing a seemingly “simple” injury can be. simple injuries can easily become complex and destroy a strong horse and rider team.} – finding solace in gardening {and actually growing things successfully!} – finishing major...

How I Broke “Blogging-Block”

So what does it take to break this “has-been” rodeo queen’s blogging-block? Apparently, attending a rodeo. (I know, it sounds a little obvious in hindsight.) I started writing in sixth grade because I loved horses and wanted to read more about them. I started writing historical fiction in high school based on incredible real-life stories about horses in history. I started this blog specifically to talk about horses and history, and it evolved as my interaction with horses changed. Nowadays, I’m just a city girl. My cowgirl boots are tucked away, rarely fished out. But this past weekend, I attended the Columbia County Fair and Rodeo to see my cousin...

Book Review: Once Upon a Prince

Who could pass up the chance to review a modern-day fairy tale written by the incredible Rachel Hauck? Not me. Description: Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess—just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn’t going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life. The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon’s Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family’s tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna’s...

confession: I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth

It’s been exactly two and a half weeks since my last “confession.” That wasn’t meant to be witty. It’s just true. Two and a half weeks ago, my level of responsibility at work and my level of stress got dialed up to 11 and something had to give. Unfortunately, it was this blog. Five days a week was meant to help discipline my writing habit and help hone my voice. I felt it only made me bitter and boring. Thus, I’m in the midst of all the goings-on of my life, I’m trying to decide where this blog fits in amongst my priorities. I don’t want to blog just to put...

confessions: creating a vision board

I just love stumbling upon things through random tweets… This one I clicked on – “vision board” appealed to me for a variety of reasons. I’m a recovering scrapbooker and I love thinking about the future. Though I know people have done this for years and I’m just a little behind on the terminology, I’m fixated on this idea. I’m also thinking I might create a digital one versus a paper one… (but that’s the graphic designer in me.) What would I have on my board? Family & friends. Horses. (Duh.) Books. Dogs. Adventures through historic sites, national parks. An old typewriter (I’ve always wanted one.) An office of Mac...
