Family resemblance – of the equine sort

Originally posted 10/13/11. In researching the history of Polish Arabians for my current manuscript, I dug into the lineage of my own baby. See what I found! (and realize there’s a difference between my photography and the professional shots…) Do you see the family resemblance? Here is my Grunnion, again: His grandsire, Gdansk: Now, the head shots: And Gdansk: All Gdansk images from http://www.gilbriar.com/gdansk.htm.

Quitter – and what it meant to me

Originally posted 5/20/11. I could probably blog about Jon Acuff’s book “Quitter: Closing the gap between your day job and your dream job” for a solid month. The basis of the book “Quitter” is finding a way to reach your day job, without sacrificing financial security or blindly diving into something that will leave you and your family ruined. Jon Acuff has the experience – he went through eight jobs in eight years and is now able to merge his dreams and day job. Don’t Quit…not yet The very first chapter is “Don’t Quit Your Day Job.” This jolted me a bit, as I was expecting the book “Quitter” to...

Are you living a good story?

Originally posted 5/4/11 (my 25th birthday!)  While writing a script based on his memoir, Blue Like Jazz, author Donald Miller took a good hard look at his life and the story he was living. If only we all had moments like this to make us look at our lives the same way. Fortunately, Miller wrote “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” and shares his experiences and forces you to consider: What story are you living? Are you living a good story? A boring story? “If the point of life is the same as the point of a story, the point of life is character transformation.” – Donald Miller It...

My own “story behind the story”

Originally posted 7/12/2010 –  In my childhood, my head was always filled with stories like the Chronicles of Narnia, the BFG, Call of the Wild and so many more. I gobbled up all the horse stories I could find. When I hit the sixth grade, I ran out of books that interested me, so I started reading Christian fiction and was hooked. Around that same time, I got my first horse and began training and honing my riding skills. My horse was a registered Arabian mare named LL Naseem. I found a book of legendary Arabian stallions and found my horse was a descendent of one of them. My very...

Hitting the blogging pause button

Jon Acuff (author of Quitter) posted a blog about taking the latter half of December and reposting old blogs and giving yourself a bit of a break. When you come back in 2012, you’ll be fresh and ready for new content. It’s good to pre-empt burnout when you can. I think I’ve needed this and so I’ll be following Acuff’s example and hitting the pause button. I’ll repost some of my favorite blogs and please feel free to add comments and such! Rest is good for the soul and a creative break is good for the creative juices. Are you taking a break over the holidays from anything?
