Happy 4th!

I’m taking the day off for family, bbq, fireworks and snuggling with my pathetic dog who hates fireworks and cowers like a baby. (But I still love her.) Have a safe, happy 4th of July!

History’s Treasures: Letters from Jack

Upon meeting with the seller of the collection of scrapbooks, she showed me a collection I believe is truly priceless. She had a box from the 1940s full of more than 300 postcards, photographs, letters, V-mail, ration cards and holiday cards…all from one man’s journey from across the world. While I cringe at breaking a piece off of the collection, I purchased a handful of these treasures. See below for bits of the life and adventures of Pfc. Jack T Bonnett:

History’s treasures: The Scrapbooks

My ever-vigilant and endearing husband stumbled across a post on Craigslist: three 1942 scrapbooks for sale. Needless to say, I raced over right away. What I found was beyond what I expected… There are so many more stories and memorable clips to share. Don’t worry, I’ll post more soon! I’m still drooling over this incredible find! I’ve spent hours looking at digital copies of the Oregonian papers from the 1940s but it doesn’t hold a candle to feeling the worn out newsprint beneath your fingertips, smelling the musty aroma of years long forgotten. Heaven. I’m in heaven.
