My own “story behind the story”

Originally posted 7/12/2010 –  In my childhood, my head was always filled with stories like the Chronicles of Narnia, the BFG, Call of the Wild and so many more. I gobbled up all the horse stories I could find. When I hit the sixth grade, I ran out of books that interested me, so I started reading Christian fiction and was hooked. Around that same time, I got my first horse and began training and honing my riding skills. My horse was a registered Arabian mare named LL Naseem. I found a book of legendary Arabian stallions and found my horse was a descendent of one of them. My very...

Hitting the blogging pause button

Jon Acuff (author of Quitter) posted a blog about taking the latter half of December and reposting old blogs and giving yourself a bit of a break. When you come back in 2012, you’ll be fresh and ready for new content. It’s good to pre-empt burnout when you can. I think I’ve needed this and so I’ll be following Acuff’s example and hitting the pause button. I’ll repost some of my favorite blogs and please feel free to add comments and such! So I turned to Facebook.   I have a developer account and thus activated the new “Timeline” layout which includes “important” posts, events and photos from all the content you’ve posted to Facebook. It is digital scrapbooking at its finest and...

“There is no try.”

Today, I fired up the laptop, pulled up my Google Reader and this was the post that greeted me. I needed that post. I needed that reminder. This line from Star Wars is one I quote and refer to a lot. I have it written in my day planner. “Do or do not. There is no try.” Read Michael Hyatt’s post. He says it perfectly. And then go forth and do. Or do not. ——– Happy Monday!

My definitive opinion on e-readers

I recently met with a dear friend who works at a bookstore and she asked me, as a writer, how I like my Kindle. She said their customers ask about e-readers all the time, and since she doesn’t have one, she’s not exactly sure how to answer. Here’s my answer – and I know it is bound to anger some people. If so, please let me know in the comments. 🙂  If you truly love reading, then there is no reason NOT to have an e-reader.  I know there’s the argument about the experience and feel of a hardbound book, but that’s not all that reading is. Since I received...
