Guest Post: Saddle Talk with Sue Harrison

When I was eight years old, my best friend’s mom took a group of us kids to the fair. We decided to spend some of our tickets on a pony ride. I had my heart set on the little white pony. He was lovely. However, while I was waiting my turn in line, the guy who was in charge came over and told me in a loud voice that I was too fat to ride the white pony. I had to ride the brown. The brown pony was homely and ordinary, and I was disappointed. I was also embarrassed. My weight had been a problem for a couple of years, and...

Coming Full-Circle in Writing Conferences

This August marks the 4th consecutive year I’ve attended the Oregon Christian Writers Summer Coaching Conference. With a stellar faculty and amazing editors & agents, this conference has been essential to my writing career. Without the conference: I would have never learned the importance and value of marketing with other writers. I never would have met the Diamond Girls. My bike was shimmery red with a basket and a bell. We went because our moms wanted us to get fresh air, because of the single steepest hill we knew—which stole my breath and thrilled my heart when I flew down on my Schwinn. But mostly we went for the horses. My childhood home in California had a backyard big enough for a dog and...

From the Archives: Love Does – and a challenge to you.

Live a better story. Get up and do. Look at your world differently. I dare you to read this book and not be changed. You’ll be challenged in your own study of Jesus. You’ll be challenged in your perception of church. Publisher’s description: “Love Does shares powerful stories coupled with eye-opening truths and empowers anyone who longs for a better world and a richer faith.” To me, this book was so much more. I carried it around with me each day because I felt like seeing the binding every time I looked into my purse reminded me of what I so easily forget. Love. Does. Action. Not words. Take it from Bob,...
