Finishing a rough draft on an 80,000-word or 90,000-word manuscript is a thrilling moment. Despite my misleading title of this blog post, I don’t type “the end” right away. Because finishing the rough draft is only the beginning! Yesterday I finished my rough draft to the novel I began on November 1st. I finished with under 79,000 words in 44 days. This sort of sprint works well for me personally, though I know it wouldn’t for many other writers. Now, I’m in for the marathon of revising, editing and rewriting. This was a fascinating story in how it transformed from one thing to another. My character truly took on a...
2010 NaNoWriMo Completed!
It’s done! (Even though it’s only the 29th!) I finished my 50,000’th word today of “Lillie Among Thorns.” While I’m definitely doing a bit of a happy dance in completing on deadline – I still have a LOT of work to do. For me, 50,000 words is good progress, but not yet a complete rough draft. That will happen around 80,000 words. So I’ll keep trudging along and if I can maintain the same pace, get it completed before Christmas! (Dreaming…I know.) Congrats to all the other NaNo-ers out there and to those who maybe didn’t get to finish – don’t worry about it. You write at your own pace...
NaNo Update
We are more than half of the way through November! Where did the time go? Lillie Among Thorns is keeping pace with where it should be. We hit 35,000 words this week! It’s a good feeling and I’m excited with where the story is going. Lillie, my protagonist has taken on a life of her own and changed the direction of story a few times but I’m along for the ride! Good luck to those other nano-ers!
NaNoWriMo 2010 Update
Greetings all – I’ve been plugging away at the National Novel Writing Month and while I’m still about 2,000 words behind of where I should be, I’m pleased with my content thus far and the potential! I’m nearing 20,000 words and excited of where I can ramp up the action and tension. Check back for other updates and some long delayed book reviews.
NaNoWriMo 2010 has begun!

So far – no words (thanks to travel for work and a day packed full of meetings). But you’ll see progress soon on my new work in progress. Happy November to all and NaNoWriMo to other participants!
