Check out my guest post about my “Keeper”

Admit it, we all have em. Those stories about a “keeper” or a “creeper.” Hopefully, you one day find that “keeper” or have already met and married the “keeper.” The beautiful and talented Caitlin Muir has started a blog series that posts each Friday. Inspired by certain mishaps that only Caitlin attracts, this series shares different blogger’s stories and offers a little advice, a little hope and (as with anything from Caitlin) a lot of laughs. Today, I shared my story. How a wannabe Washington rodeo queen met a good ol’ boy from Oregon on the day of her first pageant. Would he turn out to be a keeper or...

Review: The Doctor’s Lady

Description: Priscilla White and Dr. Eli Ernest both feel God’s call to missionary work. So when they learn that their board will no longer send single men and women into the field, the two agree to an in-name-only marriage. Will their minds—and hearts—be tested and changed by the hardships of the journey west? My Review: Oh, where do I even begin? I loved author Jody Hedlund’s first book, The Preacher’s Bride. So I had especially high hopes for The Doctor’s Lady. And I mean, really high hopes. Did Hedlund disappoint? Not even for a single page. Full of carefully detailed settings, heart-wrenching romance and gut-twisting drama, The Doctor’s...

Working horses in motion

At fairs across the country, draft horses show off their skills, training and teamwork at exhibitions and competitions. Nothing is more stunning than six draft horses all working together as one. Check out these photos of the One Mile Shires team and McGinnis Classic Clydesdales (middle picture) at the 2011 Oregon State Fair on Saturday, September 3rd.

The beauty and beast within competitiveness

The other day, a strange thing happened. During my commute home (on my bicycle) I got stuck behind an older gentleman who, while maintaining a respectable speed, was traveling a little too slow for my tastes. To make it worse, he’d speed up right as I went to pass him and then slow down on hills or when there was another person in the opposing lane. (Sound like a familiar tale?) Finally, we reached a wide-open area and I started to pass him. But this was the one dreaded hill of my commute – a long, steady incline that leaves me wobbly and near-blackout stage by the time I hit...

Review: Never the Bride

Description: Since she was just a little girl, Jessie Stone dreamed up hundreds of marriage proposals, doodled the romantic ideas in her journal with her treasured purple pen, and fantasized about wedding dresses and falling in love. She’s been a bridesmaid nearly a dozen times, waved numerous couples off to sunny honeymoons, and shopped in more department stores for half-price fondue pots than she cares to remember. But shopping for one key component of these countless proposals hasn’t been quite as productive–a future husband. The man she thought she would marry cheated on her. The crush she has on her best friend Blake is at very best…well, crushing. And speed...
